Thus comes the end of our once-in-a-lifetime-trip (the second one)
Highlights: - the incredibly friendly, helpful and neat Japanese, always striving for perfection (and their really cute kids) - seeing old friends and making new ones - not only the best fish in the world but also the best meat - the Pearl Farm: www.yamashita-pearl.com - being Geisha and Samurai
Now we just have to learn how to use a fork again
Fascinating, but anti-highlights - the 360° of concrete - the electronics (not much new and too expensive) - the pet-petting shop - the Love Hotels (capsules are way more fun) - for Flo: that Kyoto station’s eel shops have disappeared - for Philip: 18hours of regurgitation on the ferry - for Uschi: sleeping on tatami mats three nights in a row
mono no aware - the most beautiful things are those that end
Farewell dinner at brilliant recommendation-only (no sign on door) restaurant.
French restaurant in Tokyo recommended to us German/Brits by Japanese restaurateur in Belgium. Long live globalisation.
Picture is of sea snail (japanese/large version of escargot)
Handling selection of beautiful Netsuke (best cost over 1M¥).
Some great modern ones from Switzerland and UK too
